We would like to welcome Golden Years Sanctuary as a member to the Colleton County Chamber of Commerce. Established in February 2013, Golden Years Sanctuary Corp. stands as a beacon of hope and compassion for senior, super senior, and hospice cats in Cottageville, South Carolina. As a registered 501c3 non-profit organization, Jennifer Larson and her tribe are proud to be in good standing with both the IRS and the State of South Carolina, dedicated to their mission of providing a soft-landing spot for cats who are surrendered, abandoned, abused, or unwanted.

At Golden Years Sanctuary, Jennifer and her team understand the unique needs of aging feline companions. That's why they have created a haven where these beloved pets can find comfort, security, and a sense of home, albeit on a smaller scale. Golden Years Sanctuary rescue utilizes specially designed cat condos, fully furnished to cater to the needs of their senior residents. These condos offer a safe and cozy environment where their cats can enjoy their golden years with dignity and peace.

But their commitment to the well-being of their feline friends doesn't stop there. Jennifer and her team believe in providing enriching experiences for their residents, which is why they have outdoor play yards or "catios" attached to their condos. These spaces allow our cats to safely enjoy the great outdoors, engaging in activities such as cat napping, bird watching, lounging, and soaking up Vitamin D. Golden Years Sanctuary believes in providing holistic care that nurtures both the physical and emotional health of their furry companions.

Daily life at Golden Years Sanctuary is filled with love, compassion, and companionship. Their dedicated team spends time serenading, reading books, and simply talking to their residents. They understand the importance of human interaction in enriching the lives of their senior cats, and they strive to provide them with the attention and affection they deserve. Words of encouragement, slow blinks, and soft nose boops are just some of the ways they express their love to their feline friends.

While their focus may be on feline companions, they also have a special place in their hearts for dogs. Currently, Jennifer has two hound dogs on her premises who were adopted from the Colleton County Animal Services. These dogs came to Golden Years Sanctuary as sad little souls in need of TLC, but with proper care and attention, they have blossomed into healthy, energetic, and loving companions. Their presence serves as a reminder of the transformative power of love and compassion.

Looking towards the future, Golden Years Sanctuary has ambitious goals to support their community and advocate for the well-being of animals in need. Their adoption program aims to find loving homes for their residents, making room for more cats in need. Also, our pet food closet helps pet owners facing temporary hardships, ensuring that no pet goes hungry. Golden Years Sanctuary also offers a grant program to help with veterinary costs for seniors facing financial hurdles, keeping pets in their homes and out of shelters.

Furthermore, they are dedicated to supporting the mission of local shelters and rescue organizations. One of their future fundraising goals includes purchasing kennel runs to provide shelter dogs with a "weekend getaway" and increase their visibility for adoption. By working together, Jennifer says, “anything can make a positive impact on the lives of animals in Colleton County and beyond.” To stay updated on their journey and learn more about how you can support their cause, please visit us them Facebook or check out our website at https://goldenyearssanctuary.org/.
