Football season has not even started for the 2026-2027 school year, but the CCHS Cougars have been hard at work during the off season doing everything they can to ensure a successful upcoming season.

Vernon Gilbert, Sport Contributor and Video Producer, spoke to some of the players during workout to get their perspectives on themselves as players, new coach Bradley Adams, and expectations for the season.

Justus Jamison, senior and #3, brings versatility to the team. Coming back to the same positions from 2025 Jamison plays wide receiver, defensive back. He is looking to be catching some more kicks and punts. As for looking ahead to after high school, Jamison has not decided if he is going to pursue football, but when the time comes he will make the decision. Speaking on new Coach Bradley Adams, Jamison comments, “I think he’s a very

encouraging man. He puts confidence in people. I feel like he believes in you all the time. [He] thinks you’re a playmaker, so he can give you the ball, give you a chance to catch the ball, put you on the field and see what you can do with it.”

Melvin Ancrum, rising senior and #2, plays defensive tackle and tailback. He was injured last season and could not play like he wanted. In preparation for the 2026 season, Ancrum is working on learning his position better to be more effective on the field. When asked about Coach Adams, Ancrum comments “he is a nice guy and seems pretty cool.” Thinking about

his future, Melvin shares that Coastal Carolina is looking at him right now, but he has his eye on USC. He has cousins that went to USC and played football, his parents went there, and that is where he wants to attend.
