Sports Contributor and Video Producer hit the track to talk to the CCHS Track & Field team to highlight some of the members and get their take on the current season.
Jayden Hudson is a senior at CCHS. On the team, Hudson is primarily a discus thrower but has also done some shot put and javelin. Currently Jayden is the number one discus thrower on the team. His best throw clocks in at 332.0 meters which is just short of 110 feet. Even as
a senior, this is Hudson’s first year throwing discus. He is focused on improving every meet. He has considered continuing with the sport in college, but he is reasonably certain he is going to join the military. He has narrowed the choices down to the Navy or the Marines. He is leaning more toward the Marines, because his father was also in the Marines. Hudson gave a shout out to his dad for always being there for me, inspiring me, my grandparents for taking care of me, and my coaches from getting me where I’m at.
Deshawn Fishburn is also a senior and throws javelin for the Cougars. This is his first year throwing. Fishburn’s best friend is who got him interested in throwing the javelin. Right now, Deshawn is trying to recover from an injury. Prior to his injury Fishburn posted his best throw at 20 meters. As a senior, if given the opportunity Deshawn plans on taking this sport to the next level to continue doing something that he has wanted to do for some time.
Senior Jakara Magwood is a senior, and her main events are 400m, 4 x 100 Relay, and the 200m. She has been running since eighth grade when she fell in love with it. Her motivation to get involved with running was to get out of the house and do something productive. Magwood reflects she wishes she had started running earlier, because it would have allowed
her to build more strength, speed, and endurance. Jakara feels she is doing great so far this season. She placed on the podium at Woodland in second. Magwood wants to continue running and she has plans to go to NCAT to continue her career. Jakara thanked and gave a shout out to Simeon Hammonds and Aubrey Lemacks.
Sean Bouges, a senior is a thrower on the team. He throws shot put and discus, but his main focus is shot put. His best throws are 14.2 meters (46.58 feet) in shot put and 32.32 meters (106.0 feet) in discus. Bouges has been throwing for three years. He had to sit out his freshman year due to illness. He does have plans to continue throwing at the college level
with his sights set on Coastal Carolina or Benedict College. Sean has family members who attended both schools, and he hopes to continue tradition.
Ronald Robinson also throws for the CCHS Cougars on the track and field team. He throws discus and shot put. He has been doing track and field for two years, but this year he has buckled down and put forth some serious energy. His best throw in shot put is in the 40 feet range. Currently, Robinson does not have plans to pursue throwing past high school, but
plans can always change. His career path right now is to become an automotive mechanic. Ronald recognizes his parents, his siblings, and Coach Brown in the weight room for all their support.
