A garage/workshop, several vehicles, equipment, and approx. 2 acres of woods were damaged in an afternoon fire on Jefferies Hwy., Saturday, February 7th. The afternoon fire was reported to by several passersby reporting the building fire which was easily visible from Jefferies Highway. Crews arrived to find the single-story metal building with heavy
smoke visible and fire coming from the east side of the building with a woods fire burning through the yard and into the adjacent woods. Colleton Firefighter-Paramedics deployed several handlines to the building and doused the yard fire near the home. Additional crews used hand tools to combat the woods fire until a tractor from the Forestry Commission arrived at the scene. Crews knocked down the fire outside of the structure and entered the building through a side door. The building and contents received heavy damage with one car and several smaller vehicles also damaged. No injuries were reported. The fire is believed to have started from a debris pile fire next to the building. Dry conditions and light
winds contributed to the spread of the fire. Fire units were on the scene for two hours.
