A fire in the wall of a home caused moderate damage to a structure on Grayson Street March 19th. The incident was initially dispatched as a fire alarm, workers were at the home making a repair to a copper water line under the floor of the kitchen. While soldering the pipe with a torch, a nearby joist was set on fire. The fire ran up the inside of the wall. Workers were attempting to extinguish the fire when Colleton County Fire-Rescue arrived. Smoke and flames could be seen coming from the kitchen window upon the incident was upgraded to a structure fire, bringing additional units to the scene. Firefighters had to remove some kitchen cabinets and portions of the wall and flooring to reach the burning joists and studs. Crews were on the scene for 1-1/2 hours. Damage was isolated to the wall in the kitchen.
