An adult male received non-life threatening injuries when a tree fell on his car on Merrick Drive, March 16th. The man was driving south when the tree fell over, crossing the road and landing on his car. The car received heavy damage, but the driver was able to exit the vehicle. The tree blocked the entire two-lane road and broke off a power pole causing the power lines to also fall into the road. Colleton County Fire-Rescue positioned vehicles north and south of the tree to alert other drivers of the hazard. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man at the scene, but he denied ambulance transport to the hospital. Coastal Electric sent several units to the scene to replace the power pole. The accident was investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and closed Merrick Drive for three hours.
