A woods fire damaged approximately eight acres and a shed at a residence on Mount Carmel Road south of Smoaks, Saturday afternoon, January 10th. Crews arrived to find a fast-moving woods fire. Dry conditions and winds quickly enhanced spread the fire, additional resources and a tractor from the Forestry Commission were requested. Crews were able to keep the flames from reaching within feet of a double wide mobile home on the property. The Forestry tractor cut a double fire line around the perimeter of the fire. Brush 27 was able to navigate down a small overgrown path to reach the shed fire. Firefighters used a booster line to extinguish the shed. Fire units were on the scene for 2 hours.
