An office at the SCDOT facility located on Lowcountry Hwy in the Ruffin Community received substantial damage from a fire November 14th. A motorist noticed smoke coming from the building and reported it to 911. Colleton County Fire-Rescue arrived to find smoke coming from the eaves of the metal office building. Firefighters deployed one handline and forced entry into the building, quickly extinguished the fire inside the structure. The fire apparently started in the area of an exhaust fan in the ceiling of a restroom. The fire burned the ceiling and spread to the roof. Units were on the scene for two hours. No one was at the office when the fire was reported and no one was injured.
