Dobson, Herbert Lee

Mr. Herbert Lee Dobson, 83, of Ashton, went home to be with the Lord Sunday afternoon, October 11, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving and devoted wife, Annelle, and their family.

He was born in Hampton, South Carolina in 1943, the son of John Brantley Dobson and Gladys Corinne Ginn Dobson. He graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 1962 and went on to serve his country in the National Guard.

In his early years, he worked the land as a farmer for Harvey Farms, Inc. before going to work at Greenfield Plantation in Georgetown. While at Greenfield, he spent a great deal of his time working with the plantation’s cutting horses, which was one of his greatest joys while working there. He later became a self-employed log truck driver, a career he proudly built over 25 years before retiring in 2010. He was a man's man and a jack of all trades who could fix just about anything. Retirement gave him the gift of time, which he spent traveling with his beloved wife and pouring into his children and grandchildren, who meant everything to him. He was a longtime member of Ashton Baptist Church. He also loved watching his Gamecocks play football.

He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 33 years, Annelle J. Dobson; his sons, Brant Dobson (Lyndsey), English Crosby (Becki), and Bryan Crosby (Robin). He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Taylor (Kayla), Casyn (Belle), Ryland (Kaitlyn), Cigi (Tucker), Campbell (Shelby), Bailey (Tyler), Sydney, Kenleigh (Mason), Caden (Elise), Taylor (Anthony), and Nick; and 9 great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.

He is further survived by his siblings, Robert (Roma) and Ellen (Jimmie), along with a host of loving nieces and nephews; his lifelong best friend, Marvin Murdaugh; and his amazing caregiver, Lurane Yates, who cared for him with such devotion. He was predeceased by his siblings, Myrtis (Preston), JB (Bunny), Ed, Virgie (Richard), and Thelma (Regie).

The family will be forever grateful for the caring nurses and caregivers from Mirasol Health, who treated Herbert with such kindness and compassion.

Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has requested that memorials be directed in his memory to: Ashton Baptist Church, 5153 Willow Swamp Road, Lodge, South Carolina 29082.

Funeral services were held 3 o’clock Thursday afternoon, October 15, 2026, from Ashton Baptist Church. The Reverend Gordon Ackerman, The Reverend Danny Fogle, and The Reverend Chase McRae officiated. Interment followed in the Old Ashton Cemetery on Ashton Road in the Ashton Community.
