Northside Christian Crusaders would use a big first half to take an early lead and then would hold off several War Hawk rally attempts. The Crusaders would lead 13-0 after the first quarter and then lead 20-7 at half time. With the loss, the War Hawks were eliminated from any further playoff games. Despite several rallies, the War Hawks would eventually lose 33-28.
In every game there are several storylines that take place in the course of the game. These story lines often go unnoticed to the average football fan because you really have to pay close attention to the game. Such was the case of the Colleton Prep and Northside game in the first round of the playoffs, It is hard to point out one story line being more important than the others but that would depend on the fan’s point of view.
Colleton Prep had been trailing the entire night often by 20 points, The first story line would be that the War Hawks managed to get the ball one last time after a goal line stand. The Hawks would quickly move the ball to the Northside 15 yard line. The Hawks had the option to run or pass the ball down by 5. The Hawks elected to try to pass for the touchdown but the pass was intercepted in the end zone to secure the win for Northside.
The Crusaders would set the momentum early in the first quarter scoring two touchdowns to take a 13-0 lead. Northside would limit the War Hawks to 5 offensive plays in the first quarter. The second quarter would see the two teams trade offensive touchdowns as Northside would lead at half 20-7.
The series of plays which probably changed the course of the game occurred in the third with just over 6 minutes to play. Colleton Prep completed a long pass that appeared to be a touchdown: however, the War Hawk receiver was stripped of the ball and the Crusaders recovered.
That would have made the score at least 28-20. Two players later the Crusaders would score on a 98-yard touchdown pass to score to make the score 26-14. That turned out to be a 14-point difference for the Crusaders.
With the loss, the War Hawks finished with an 8-4 overall record and a 3-1 record in the region.
