By HEATHER RUPPE

A 28-year-old Walterboro man received life-threatening injuries on July 5th after he was struck by a car in a hit-and-run. Two bystanders found the man bleeding in the street at about 11:29 p.m., in the 600 block of Padgett Loop near Hampton Street. Those bystanders then called 911 for help.
“Evidence at the scene indicated he was struck in the roadway in the westbound lanes and thrown to the curb in the eastbound lanes,” said Barry McRoy, chief of Colleton County Fire-Rescue. “The man suffered multiple traumatic injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics treated him at the scene.”
According to McRoy, firefighter-paramedics called for a medical helicopter to help the man, but the helicopter was not available. Therefore, the man was transported to the trauma center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.
The Walterboro Police Department is investigating this case.
Anyone with information regarding the accident are urged to contact the Walterboro Police Department or to call the S.C. Highway Patrol.
