Elderly woman robbed
after shopping
An elderly woman reported to police on July 17 she was grocery shopping when an unknown man approached her. She said the man said he knew her and where she lived.
After following her around the store, the man reportedly followed her to the parking lot and got into her car, telling her to drive to an ATM to get him money. She drove to a gas station where she said he made her withdraw $200, then snatched another $20 from her wallet.
The victim said she was afraid of the offender and felt she had no choice but to do what he wanted.
Walterboro Police are investigating.


Blessing box
vandalized
Someone ripped the door off a blessing box used by a church on Eddie Casteen Boulevard to distribute food to the needy.
A Walterboro police officer on patrol noticed the door had been torn off and thrown on the ground, breaking the glass.

Person threatens to bomb DSS
Police responded after a woman came to the register of a store on Bells Highway, and said she was going to bomb the DSS office and “kill that DSS worker.” The report says the woman was allegedly on methamphetamine and had her children taken away by DSS.


A man and a mask
A man reportedly became agitated and aggressive after being asked to wear a mask in a business on Eddie Chasteen Drive, Walterboro Police reports said.
Officers said they found the man sitting in a car, but when approached, he rolled up the windows and reached for his open alcoholic beverage. The officer told the driver of the car not to open or leave the car. But the driver got out, and the unmasked suspect reportedly assaulted the driver.
Officers unlocked the vehicle, but the man still refused to get out. He was removed and taken to jail.


Shots fired
in parking lot
Walterboro police responded to a shots-fired call at a convenience store on Robertson Boulevard on July 15.
The store’s security video shows a man exit the business and walk to his vehicle. A second suspect then leaves the store and goes to his vehicle, reportedly reaches into the pocket of his pants, pulls a handgun and shoots at the first man. The first man appears to returns fire. Both then get into their cars and leave.
Officers found a .40 shell casing and a 9mm casing at the scene.


Gas stolen
on Sidneys Road
A resident of Sidneys Road called deputies on July 16 to report someone had taken gasoline. The resident had parked his truck on his farm on Monday but when he came back, he reported the gas line had been cut and the gas siphoned. In his shed, he found a black tube next to his yard trimmers and gas all over the ground.


Credit cards fraud
A woman reported that someone had opened several credit cards in her name for a value of $8,000. She found the cards after checking her credit report.


I-95 speeder
On July 17 a deputy on I-95 saw a speeding car. His radar clocked a Red Dodge Charger at 142 mph. The car exited on McLeod Road, still at a high rate of speed and the deputy lost sight of the vehicle. A search, however, found the car parked and the driver had fled into the woods. The suspect then attempted to get into a white truck but was stopped by the deputy.
The suspect told the deputy he was waiting for his girlfriend to pick him up. However, when the deputy ran the suspect’s information, he found the suspect was wanted in Lexington County.
A second deputy arrived and reportedly found an AK-47 pistol in the trunk of the vehicle. A search revealed the Charger’s key in the suspect’s pocket.
The S.C. Highway Patrol also responded and had the vehicle towed.
The suspect was taken to jail, on hold for Lexington County.


Missing car
A woman reported to deputies that she left her white 2013 Chevy Impala on the side of the road on ACE Basin Parkway about 1 a.m. on July 18 after the car cut off while she was driving. But when she returned to retrieve the car, it was gone and there was no record of it being towed.
Man arrested
A man was arrested by deputies after being stopped for not having tag lights.
The deputy reported he found a smoking pipe commonly used for meth, an open needle and a container with drug residue. Officers also found .380 automatic handgun. The tag was also suspended in Georgia.
After being arrested, the driver reportedly threatened to beat up the deputy, so he added a charge of threatening a public official in addition to driving under suspension third offense and unlawful carrying of a handgun.
