Drunken duo taken to jail for DUI, trying to assault officer

A drunken 28-year-old Smoaks woman was taken into custody last week when she refused to listen to law enforcement and then tried to punch an officer.
According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, the officer was on routine patrol on Cane Branch Road, near Magellan Road, in Walterboro on March 13th when he saw a vehicle driving in the wrong direction along the highway. The officer stopped the male driver and said in his report he could “immediately detect” a strong smell of alcohol coming from the car. The officer also stated that the driver had “lethargic speech” and “red glassy eyes,” the report states. The driver told the officer that he had two beers while fishing. However, the driver could not give his name or date of birth to the officer. The officer learned that the man’s license had been suspended, the report states.
The man was charged with DUI.
However, the female passenger started to become belligerent and refused to comply with officers, who asked her “numerous times to get back in the car” so she “would not get hit by a car.” According to the incident report, the woman had also been drinking. However, while trying to get the woman to get back into the car, the male drunken driver then sat on the side of the roadway and also began to refuse to comply with officers’ requests.
“The trooper had to physically pick him up and escort him to a deputies’ patrol car, who had arrived on scene to assist,” the officer wrote in his report.
The man was yelling for the passenger to film. The passenger then began to curse at the officers and tried to swing at the officer. She was taken into custody for disorderly conduct.
Drugs found at city gas pump
Walterboro police officers were called to a Bells Highway gas station on March 12th when a person pumping gas found a small pouch of drugs laying beside the gas pump. The officer said in his report that the small pouch contains small crystals inside, according to the report. The drugs were seized. No charges have yet been issued to the unknown suspect.
Driver charged with meth possession
An officer with the Walterboro Police Department stopped a vehicle when the driver failed to maintain his lane while on Ivanhoe Road. When the cop stopped the vehicle, the officer said in his report that he “smelled marijuana” coming from the vehicle. The officer saw a glass pipe with a burnt end on the floorboard of the vehicle, the report states. The driver also had drugs in his pocket. He was charged with possession of meth, driving under suspension, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Angry woman arrested for disorderly conduct at local hotel
Multiple guests staying at a Walterboro hotel called 911 last week to report that a woman was constantly screaming at someone. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, officers responded to the Rodeway Inn to complaints that a woman on the second floor of the hotel was screaming at her boyfriend. The woman was found, and she told officers that she was at the hotel because she had discovered her boyfriend there with another woman. While talking to the 24-year-old Walterboro woman, officers said in their report that she had a “strong odor” of alcohol emitting from her. She was arrested for disorderly conduct and taken to jail.
Teen points gun at sibling, taken into custody
A juvenile was taken into custody last week for pointing a gun at his sister. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the victim called 911 and reported that her brother was pointing a gun at her. The two had been involved in a verbal altercation when the underage boy allegedly grabbed a gun and pointed it at the victim. They had left the scene before police arrived to allegedly hide the gun. The juvenile did return, and he was taken into custody.
Driver charged with drug possession
A Colleton man is charged with possession with intent to distribute meth after an officer discovered 1.7 grams of the drug on the floorboard of his vehicle. The man was originally stopped in a traffic stop along Bells Highway, near Stokes Road, for his vehicle having a tag light out. According to an incident report filed with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect gave consent to have his car searched. During that search, the deputy discovered the drugs wrapped in a piece of tinfoil and laying on the passenger floorboard. The 22-year-old was taken into custody.
Weapon reported on school grounds
Local law enforcement officers were called to a Colleton County school last week when a student was reported to have a weapon on school property. This occurred on March 12th. Sheriff’s Office officials have since confirmed that the weapon was not a gun. However, they did state the confiscated object could be used as a weapon. Per standard protocol, the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice has been called to assist with the case.
People charged for riding SUVs on private property
Five people were given citations last week by deputies when they were discovered to have been illegally riding four-wheelers and gators on someone’s property. Deputies were called to the Ruffin residence on March 13th. Several people were found to be riding four-wheelers and a “side by side gator” on the owners’ property. The people did not have permission to be on the property. Five adults were consequently given trespass notices.
Home burglarized
Deputies responded to a burglary incident that occurred at a house on Sniders Highway last week. When deputies arrived, the homeowner said he saw the suspect walking out of the front door of his mobile home. The suspect had entered the house through a window that he broke. The suspect allegedly stole two bracelets, the report states. The 23-year-old suspect has been identified and is wanted for second-degree burglary.
