Baby in MUSC after being abused by father

A child has been abused by his father and is now receiving attention at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) for those injuries.
On Nov. 30th, the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office was notified by MUSC staff members in Charleston and by Department of Social Services’ workers that the infant was receiving medical attention at MUSC for injuries from physical abuse. The baby is from Cottageville.
It is unclear how old the baby is.
According to the sheriff’s office incident report, the abuser is the child’s father.
Local law enforcement officers are investigating this case.
No further details are available at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation, according to Colleton County Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Shalane Lowes.

Lookalike cop car stopped

A Colleton County deputy stopped a vehicle on Sniders Highway last week when that vehicle was displaying blue lights as if it were a patrol car – and it wasn’t. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the deputy stopped the Dodge Challenger near Campground Road on Nov. 29th because the car had blue lights, as it were a cop’s car. While doing this traffic stop, the deputy ended up arresting the male driver for possession with intent to distribute meth. It is unclear how much meth the driver had in his possession.

Cig thief stuffs cartons and runs

Police officers are looking for a man who stole more than $170 in cigarettes from a local gas station. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, officers were called to the Mobile gas station on Jefferies Boulevard on Nov. 21st when a man walked into the store and grabbed the cigarettes and left. The amount stolen equals to about $176.90, the report states.

Drunken woman arrested for cursing, tossing items
A 34-year-old woman was arrested for disorderly conduct last week after she threw her own purse into the street and began cursing. The woman was arguing with her boyfriend when she began drinking, and then proceeded to throw her items out of the house and into Greenpond Highway, a Walterboro Police Department incident report states. The woman was charged with disorderly conduct for being “grossly intoxicated,” the report states, and for cursing in the street.

ATM machine damaged during attempted theft

Officers were called to the Bells Coin Laundry in Walterboro on Nov. 28th to a man trying to break into an ATM machine. According to a Walterboro Police Department incident report, the suspect was seen on a security camera inside the business trying to break into the machine. The suspect, who was found, then admitted to the act and to also damaging the machine. The man also told officers he is a drug addict and can’t think clearly. The man was taken to jail and charged with malicious injury to personal property. The damage is estimated at $20,000, the report states.

Teen party includes 12-year-old kid caught drinking

Six people, including a 12-year-old boy, were caught drinking on a person’s property in Walterboro. Officers were called to a house near Haynes Street and Pine Street on Nov. 28th for a noise complaint. When they arrived, they saw several people drinking from red solo cups. Officers also found beer pong and a funnel. The offenders’ range in age from 12 to 20 years old, the report states. The older suspects were cited and released and the 12-year-old juvenile was given to his father. The homeowner was not present when the party occurred, according to a Walterboro Police Department incident report.

Shed shot during neighbor’s gun play

A Walterboro man called authorities for help last week when his neighbor shot a hole into his shed. According to a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the man called the sheriff’s office on Nov. 30th to report that his neighbor is “constantly” shooting guns. The complainant said he doesn’t mind the shooting – as long as his property is not harmed. However, the man found a hole in the back of his shed allegedly caused by the neighbor during a shooting binge. The damage was documented in the incident report. No other action was taken.
