CPA Cross Country Coach George Smith is very proud of his team and the progress they are making. After summer and after school practices this young team has been posting times and placements worthy of attention. With 5 races (one cancellation) ticked off the season the Warhawks are looking good.

Coach Smith commented that in the September 2nd race the team “started out the season on a positive note. We had runners in the varsity boys, middle school boys, and the middle school girls with the middle school runners running a shorter course.”

In their first run the Warhawks placed 4th overall in varsity boys, 5th in middle school girls, and 12th for middle school boys.

September 24th the Warhawks ran at home at the Dogwood Hills Golf Course, and there was the added distinction that CPA was the only private school to run in this race.

Colleton Prep placed 3rd overall.

The Warhawks latest race, the Lowcountry Invitational saw Colleton Prep placing 10th overall in the JV girls race with runners placing 12th, 57th, 113th, 133rd, 136th, 170th, 171st out of a field of 173.

In the varsity boys’ race CPA placed 25th overall with runners placing 119th, 107th, 213th, 222nd, 226th, out of a field of 276.

CPA was 19th overall in the JV Boys race with runners placing 83rd, 185th, 193rd, 202nd, 235th, 239th, out of a field of 246.

Coach Smith acknowledges his team is young but comments they had a good start to the season. Out of 21 runners only 5 are in high school, leaving 16 in middle school some as young as 5th graders. There are some runners with some nagging injuries, but they are still placing in the races. These student athletes are running against larger schools in larger divisions and are being competitive. The CPA Warhawks Cross Country Team’s next race is October 4th on James Island. “If everyone stays healthy we are going to have a good year.”
