The Colleton County Cougars traveled to Mt. Pleasant hoping to snap a five game losing streak against the Lucy Beckham Bengals. Even though the Cougars played more competitively than they have in the past few weeks, the result was still a 31-21 defeat.

The Bengals scored first on a rushing touchdown, making the score 7-0. They later added a passing touchdown to make the score 14-0 after the first quarter.

The Cougars responded with a rushing and passing touchdown in the second quarter to make the score 14-14 at halftime.

The Bengals scored a field goal and got a rushing touchdown in the third quarter to go up 24-14. The Cougars answered with a rushing touchdown to pull ahead at 24-21. The Bengals then added a 46-yard rushing touchdown to make the final score 31-21.

“I thought our kids probably played their best game of the year. We had over 400 yards of total offense, with over 300 yards passing. We had two receivers who recorded over 100 yards each receiving. Defensively, we played very well in spurts but gave up several big plays which hurt us,” said Coach Kris Howell. “Turnovers were the difference in the ball game. We cannot give teams extra opportunities to score. We had two chances to take the lead and win but didn’t make the plays when we needed them. Overall, we improved quite a bit. I’m extremely proud of the players and coaches for continuing to work hard and prepare for the games.”

The Cougars will look to close their season on a positive note Friday night when they travel to Bluffton. Game time is 7:30.
