The Colleton County varsity boys basketball team dropped SCHSL Region VII-AAAA games last week against Lucy Beckham (70-51) and Hilton Head High School (70-54). The Cougars are currently 5-12 overall and 1-8 in conference play.

In the at-home loss to Lucy Beckham on Tuesday, January 25, Mykeem Gant scored 13 points and Adam Buckner added 12 points. Other scoring included Footman with eight points; Winfield with seven points; Brian Hamilton with five points; Deshaun Blocker with four points; and Tyshawn Hundley with two points. Lucy Beckham was led by Allard with 26 points and Ireland with 17 points.

In on-the-road play against Hilton Head High School on Friday, January 28th, Adam Buckner scored 16 points and Brian Hamilton added 15 points. Other scoring included Nick Williams with eight points; Gant with seven; Blocker with four; Winfield with two; and Footman with two.

“It was a tough week for us,” said Coach Matthew Mullins. “We just came out flat against Lucy Beckham and got out played. Against Hilton Head, we were one bad quarter from being able to steal a win. In the second quarter, we were just very sloppy with the basketball and fell behind, however, we played them tough the other three quarters.

“Deshaun Blocker tweaked his ankle early in the week and gave us all he could, but I could tell it was affecting him. We are going to keep grinding and stay focused on the next opponent.”

Colleton County will travel to James Island High School on Tuesday, February 1 before hosting Bluffton High School on Friday, February 4.
