The Colleton County Cougars split Region VII-AAAA decisions last week earning a 57-55 win over Bluffton High School and falling 65-40 to Hilton Head High School. Colleton County is currently 5-6 overall and 1-3 in Region VII-AAAA.

In a home loss to Hilton Head High School on Tuesday, January 4, Colleton County was led by Deshaun Blocker with 22 points. Other scoring included Brian Hamilton 6, Mykeem Gant 5, Kenny Hand 4, Adam Buckner 2, and Nick Williams 1.

Hilton Head was led by Walters with 12 points. Other scoring included Rohr 10, Morris 10, Hennom 9, Nelson 8, Campbell 7, and Smith 3.

In the road win over Bluffton High School on Friday, January 7, Blocker scored 14 points and Hamilton added 11 points. Other scoring included Gant 9, Buckner 8, McNeil 8, and Hand 2.

“It was a good team win on Friday,” said Coach Matthew Mullins. “Everyone contributed and had a big moment for us down the stretch. The difference maker for us was definitely hitting our free throws down the stretch. We went 17-20 from the free throw line in the game and we needed all of them in a close game like that. Deshaun Blocker hit some big ones with under a minute to go to help us seal it. Hopefully, this win will help us gain some momentum as we get deeper into region play.”

Colleton County will host Beaufort High School on Friday, January 14.
