Cougars drop opener to Hurricanes

Colleton County and Hampton County teams played a defensive struggle for most of the night. The Hurricanes did manage enough offense to come away with a 10-0 win over the Cougars. According to Coach Adam Kinloch the Cougars had their chances to win the game. Kinloch noted that the Cougars had a pass intercepted that was returned for a touchdown only to be nullified by a penalty. On two other occasions, the coach thought he had the potential for two touchdown passes only to see the receiver drop the ball.

The defensive battle would begin in the first half with neither team scoring a touchdown. Hampton did manage to kick a field goal to lead at half 3-0. The score would remain that way until Hampton was able to score with four minutes left in the game.

Despite the loss Kinloch, was pleased with the effort the kids gave. “These guys played hard the entire ball game. Super excited to see what this team will accomplish”, said Kinloch. The first year had thought that his quarterback, Shawn Williams and tail back Carmen Grayson had excellent games. He also thought the offensive line as a whole played well.

Defensively, the Cougars were paced by Nick Williams, Desmond Brown, Jay Graham, and Brian Hamilton.

The Cougars will be off next week which should give the opportunity to work on the areas of the game that needs to be addressed.

The Cougars will return to action September first against WhiteKnoll. Kick-off is at 7:30.
