Construction Worker Airlifted after Fall

An adult male was severely injured in a fall Monday evening October 16. Colleton County 911 was notified of the incident which occurred in Bamberg County. The worker was on a crew assembling a metal carport when he fell and sliced his arm on the metal sheeting. The man received a deep laceration with severe bleeding. His co-workers attempted to control the bleeding, placed him in a truck and drove into Colleton County seeking help. They drove to the intersection of Confederate Hwy and Broxton Bridge Hwy. Fire-Rescue crews met them there and immediately began treating the man's injuries. Tourniquets and bandages were applied, along with the administration of IV fluids, whole blood and TXA. A medical helicopter was requested, and CARE Flight responded to the scene. The man was transferred to the Flight Crew, then flown to a Charleston Area Trauma Center for further treatment.
