911 was notified that a construction crew had accidentally dug up a Natural Gas Line at 1306 Hampton St. on Monday, May 11th. The line was broken and actively discharging natural gas in the area. Colleton County Fire-Rescue arrived at the location a short time later and closed one block of Hampton and Colson Streets. Multiple homes, one business and a church were evacuated. A Dominion Energy crew arrived quickly and worked for about 30 minutes to contain the leak. Once they advised the incident was safe, the road was reopened, and occupants were allowed back into their homes. No injuries were reported, and no structures were damaged.
