Colleton County Citadel Club Cadet Send Off

Posted

The Colleton County Citadel Club held a Cadet Send-Off dinner June 6, 2024 recognizing returning cadets and freshman (knobs) with scholarships.

The event was held at the Colleton Museum and Farmers Market and featured a delicious catered meal. Club President Brian Hefner, Class of 1995 welcomed all those present and Revered Leroy Riley delivered the prayer. The introduction of the special guest speaker was given by Jarred Sumner, Class of 2000. Many Citadel alumni were present and representatives of The Citadel Foundation whose mission is to secure, manage, and steward philanthropic support for The Citadel were also in attendance.

Colonel Thomas J. Gordon, USMC and Citadel Commandant of Cadets, Class of 1991, was the guest speaker and gave “The Pep Talk”. Through anecdote and humor Colonel Gordon spoke about the type of men The Citadel would mold these incoming freshman (knobs) and returning cadets into; men of discipline, men of caliber, and men who lead.

Hefner, assisted by Cindy Riley, Club Secretary, then presented the scholarships. Cadets receiving scholarships were Nathan Erwin, Junior, Andrew Murdaugh, Junior, Thomas Sumner, Junior, and Beau High, Sophomore. Knobs receiving scholarships were Matthew Blackmon, James Crosby, Caleb Davis, Caden Deichart, and Thomas McMillan.

Congratulations to these young men on their continuing journey for some and new journey for others.
