The Colleton County Recreation Center is filled with multiple types of classes for all Colleton residents, with fun activities ranging from dominoes to yoga to adult volleyball.

Classes start at 6 a.m. and run through 6 p.m. each evening at the recreational complex, which is located at 280 Recreation Lane in Walterboro.

“I don’t think the general public knows how much we offer here and how many of our residents actually depend on the recreation department for their daily activities,” said Chris Myers, director of the Colleton County Recreation Department. “Chair aerobics and yoga are probably our two most-well attended classes,” he said, adding that some of the recreation center’s adults who attend these classes range from 35 to 60-years old.

“The reason we stay so busy is because it gives people of all ages a place to go with activities to participate in, especially our retired residents,” he said. “Our classes are a prize for our community, and most people probably don’t realize we offer as much as we do.”

Classes offered at the department for adults include workout and fitness classes, such AMPD, Pound Classes, Fitness Fusion, Beach Body classes, and Step Aerobics.

The center also has group classes, including Line Dancing, Advanced Dance and Polynesian Dance. Additionally, the recreation department offers classes in various types of fitness and work-out routines for adults of all ages, including kickboxing. There are also less tedious activities, such as recreational activities like dominoes.

The recreation department also offers multiple adult sporting leagues, including adult volleyball and adult basketball.
