The Brice Herndon Draft Horse and Carriage Company of Perchwood Farm is a horse-drawn carriage service for weddings, funerals, parades, parties, and special events.

Perchwood Farm is located in Colleton County, just outside of Walterboro. The farm not only houses the horses in the stables but also serves as a venue for hosting a variety of events for the company and the family that owns and operates it.

The late Donald Herndon was a staple in the community and his final dream was to establish the carriage company. When he came home with a set of draft horses and carriages, he was determined to see his dream come to fruition.

Donald had a love for French Percherons, Clydesdales, and other horses. This love stemmed back to his childhood memories of the horses he came to know and love as a child. He would watch them work, perform carriage work, compete, and riding trails.

Unfortunately, Donald passed away before he could witness the completion of Perchwood. His vision for Perchwood still remains embedded in the current and future plans. His dream continues to live on through the ones that knew and loved him best. His wife, Linda, along with Anthony, Allison, Brandon, Jodi, and Jillian carry on his living legacy, and someday his granddaughter Adalin Grace will join them.

The stables at Perchwood were completed in 2019 and were dedicated in honor and memory of Donald Herndon.

During this holiday season, the carriage company is offering Christmas carriage rides. While sponsoring the “Deck the Porch” challenge as the passengers ride along Hampton Street in Walterboro.

Along the way, patrons will be able to see some of the historic homes that are participating in the “Deck the Porch” challenge for the best-decorated home. The winners were selected on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Ticket holders can enjoy sweet treats in the company of others during a group carriage tour or more intimately in a private vis-a-vis carriage, both of which are decorated for Christmas.
