K9 Mako is an 8-year-old, 100-pound German Shepherd trained as a patrol K-9 in narcotics detection, tracking, article searches, handler protection, and apprehension. Mako and Detective Raymond Davis were hired on December 29, 2020, and currently serve on the narcotics team, where he has been highly successful in locating individuals and assisting in the fight against drugs in Colleton County. Det. Davis has been ASCT-certified as a K-9 handler since 2016.
To those who don’t know him, Mako can seem intimidating, especially when protecting his patrol vehicle, but in reality, he’s a big teddy bear who loves belly rubs and brushing. When he’s not working, he enjoys relaxing in his kennel and waiting for the next call. When Mako retires, he will spend the rest of his life at home with Det. Davis, with the occasional training day, doing what he loves.
