Wrestling season is underway and Vernon Gilbert Sports Contributor and Video Producer spoke with the head wrestling Coach and some of the wrestlers to get their take on the team and the season.
Coach Jaques Glover is the head coach of the CCHS Wrestling Team. Coach Glover also wrestled at CCHS and went to state twice when he represented the Cougars. He started wrestling his sophomore year in high school. His sophomore year he placed fourth and his junior year he placed third. Wrestling was a sport he grew to love. He originally wanted to play football, but his Dad would not let him and wrestling was the next best thing.
Glover comments he has a lot of good kids, male and female, on the team this year and they will be covering all their weights. Glover comments he has a couple of standouts on the team this year and believes he will be taking a lot of wrestlers to state. Glover fully expects to make the playoffs this season. The team did lose a wrestler, and this entire season is dedicated to him and Glover states “when we get to the playoffs it is all dedicated to JB.”
Jaleesha Jenkins (215 Weight Class) is the Captain of the girls’ wrestling team. She is looking forward to bringing home the trophy at the upcoming wrestling match.
Jaylen Ledger (150 Weight Class) wrestles for the boys’ team. He won his last two matches and he cannot wait for his upcoming matches.
