CCHAPS Presents its 2023 Awards

The Colleton County Historical and Preservation Society presented its Preservation Awards on Thursday, October 12. The ceremony and reception was well attended at the Boynton-Crawford Homestead in Hendersonville.

Four Awards were presented, The Colleton Rural Property Award went to Mary Pat and Grant Crawford for the beautifully restored Victorian home known as the Boynton-Crawford Homestead built in 1905.

The Simon Verdier Award was presented to the Blanton House. Thomas Blanton purchased the early 1900’s Arts and Crafts bungalow on Fishbourne Street home two years ago.

The Ackerman House received The Sir John Colleton Award which represents “Architectural Preservation” at its best. The home, located on Hampton Street with its deep front porch, was built in 1910 and is owned by Mrs. Eve Ackerman Richardson.

St. Jude’s Church received the St. Bartholomew Award for Historic Site Presentation. The present St. Jude’s sanctuary was built in 1882 and replaced the church destroyed by a tornado in 1879. The Rev. Newman Lawrence and Marianne Holmes received the award on behalf of St. Jude’s Church.

The Colleton County Historical and Preservation Societies mission is to promote, nurture, support, and protect the historical and cultural heritage of Walterboro, Colleton County, and its environs through programs of awareness, education, and preservation.​
