This week in #FireFighterFriday features Angie Stewart. Firefighter Paramedic Stewart is assigned to Station 7 Platoon on “B” Shift. Stewart has received the honor of being named South Carolina Paramedic of the Year in 2019 and the Jack Niles Educator of the Year in 2007.

Native to Walterboro Stewart also received the honor of being crowned “Lil’ Miss Walterboro”. After graduating high school Steward moved to the upstate and was hired at Dow Brands and went on to finish her EMT training. After Dow Brands closed Stewart started volunteering at the Greer Fire Department ultimately deciding to pursue a career in the medical field. She was hired at Spartanburg EMS and received her Paramedic Certification in 1995. With the certification she was able to become a Field Training Officer, a Shirt Training Supervisor, and a member of the Special Response Team. Spartanburg EMS not only gave Stewart the beginning of her career, it also is where she met her husband, Mitch Stewart.

Her service to community did not end with her Paramedic work she volunteered in the community as well. She volunteered with SC Search and Rescue Dog Association, as Sector Commander for Clemson Football games, at Kadi Medical at Furman University sporting events, and she was a jump medic on the track fire truck at Darlington Raceway for NASCAR. Stewart moved back to Colleton County after twenty-three years away and began working for Beaufort EMS. She and her husband became involved with SC Fast providing education on suicide awareness and maintaining mental health. In 2015, Stewart joined Colleton County Fire-Rescue as a volunteer and in 2020 joined the department as a career Firefighter Paramedic. Stewart also co-developed “Mile In Our Boots” Clinicians Academy allowing clinicians to better understand the job of first responders and ways they can make improvements in caring for all first responder.

When she is not working, she enjoys traveling with her husband and enjoys spending time with her sons, Brandon, Trevor, and Logan.
