Get to know #yourColletonFirefighter Brandon Broach on #firefighterfriday. Engineer/ Flight Paramedic (FP-C) Broach is assigned to Careflight on “B” Shift. Engineer/FP-C Broach joined Colleton County Fire-Rescue in 2007. Here is more information:
Brandon entered the fire service in 2007 as one of the first Explorer Post firefighters. He was motivated to join Colleton-County Fire Rescue at a young age while his mother was battling a terminal illness. Brandon said, “I knew someday, somehow I wanted to be able to provide comfort to people who are sick or injured. I want to make a difference in their lives.” Not fond of the idea of being locked inside all day, he turned to Colleton County Fire-Rescue. He found a place where he can positively impact lives outside of four walls. After gaining his fire and medical certifications, he was offered a full-time position on “D” Shift in July 2009. During his time on “D” shift, he continually improved his skills by taking classes, and in November 2009, Brandon transferred to a 24/48 position. In 2013, he completed Paramedic school, but he wasn’t done with training. Brandon went on to complete the Engineer required education and testing. Always looking up, and always ready for the next adventure, Brandon applied to the CARE Flight program. Once he completed the arduous testing process, he was offered the secondary flight position. He obtained his Flight Paramedic Certification (FP-C) in 2020. Based on the complexity of the air medical transportation and the need for redundancies, the C.A.R.E. Flight Paramedics are separated into primary and secondary assignments. The primary group flies seven shifts a month, and the secondaries fly three shifts a month. When the Flight Paramedics are not assigned to the aircraft, they are assigned to work the Station Platoons and rotate on the fire trucks and ambulances. This rotation allows them to keep their skills sharp in the air and on the ground. In 2021, Brandon transitioned to the primary flight group.
In his time off, he enjoys spending time with his wife and son boating and traveling.
