Wood Road Accident Victim CARE Flighted to MUSC

Two people were critically injured in a single vehicle accident on Wood Road Tuesday afternoon April 2. The east bound Crown Victoria was traveling at a high rate of speed and crossed into the west bound lane, entered the ditch, and struck a driveway culvert. The car became airborne and struck a large oak tree several feet off the ground. The occupants of the vehicle were trapped in the wreckage and suffered multiple life-threatening injuries. Colleton County Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the patients in the car, while other crew members extricated the victims. The female passenger was transported to a nearby field to to be transported by CARE Flight to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. Crews working to free the driver. After extrication with spinal precautions, he received treatment at the scene, and was transported to the Trauma Center at MUSC with two additional Firefighter-Paramedics onboard to assist with his care. Wood Road was blocked for over an hour due to the accident. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
