A Lodge woman was critically injured recently when her vehicle rolled over several times, throwing her from the car.

The 43-year-old woman was found laying about 15 feet from her 2001 Ford Expedition. According to officials with Colleton County Fire-Rescue (CCFR), she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was thrown from the vehicle during the crash, which occurred near the 6600-block of Augusta Highway (S.C. Higwhay 61).

Firefighter-paramedics were first alerted to the crash at about 9:45 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 13th. The woman appears to have lost control of the vehicle, and it left the roadway before flipping “several times,” said Barry McRoy, chief of CCFR. The vehicle then came to rest in a person’s yard.

“When we arrived, Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the woman, who was in critical condition,” said McRoy. “They requested a medical helicopter and an additional unit to assist with patient care.”

The medical helicopter – CARE Flight – landed near the Circle C Truck Stop in Canadys. The woman was flown to the Trident Medical Center Trauma Center in North Charleston.

According to McRoy, the S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.

Local crews with Colleton County Fire-Rescue were on scene for about three hours, said McRoy.
