We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
Romans 6:2-4
The last words of this text are “new life.” It doesn’t take long to realize something is terribly wrong with this life and the world we live in. The world and our lives have been corrupted by centuries of prioritizing our selfishness. We have hurt ourselves, distanced ourselves from each other, damaged our world, and we find it difficult to trust God. Everything our sin has touched is broken.
Through the Bible, God’s message to us is that we were created for a better life than this. God made us so that he could have a relationship with us. By sending Jesus to be our substitute, God made a way for sinners to be brought into relationship with God. When a person is baptized, they are raised up out of the water, symbolizing a resurrection or a new life in Jesus Christ.
This new life is living in the confidence that Jesus has accomplished everything required for our forgiveness and salvation. In Jesus we are confident that we belong to God and that God belongs to us. Our security, strength, and hope are found in Jesus, even when life hurts. In fact, our new life is growing in our knowledge and relationship with Jesus. This new life begins by repenting of your sins and believing in Jesus. Are you living a new life in Jesus?
