Walterboro Lions Hold May Meeting

The Walterboro Lions Club held its monthly meeting at Dukes Bar B Que on Wednesday, May 6th, at 1:00 PM. Bob Pence, Lions Club President, opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by prayer.

The group discussed the two scholarships awarded this year, both in nursing to Chadisty Michelle and Jordan Way. They were two of the seven applicants for the scholarship. Both scholarships were awarded at the Senior Awards Day.

The group also awarded 100 dollars and a plaque to the NJROTC for their assistance at the annual pancake dinner. In addition, the group awarded $100 dollars to Camp Leo and the Storm Eye Institute.

The new officers will take over in July with John Burns taking the reigns as President of the club.

The Club is aways looking to increase their membership. The groups also fund projects with their brooms sales. Brooms are available at Hiott’s Pharmacy.

The Lions Clubs Internationally are a world leader in the effort to prevent avoidable blindness, they are working with local partners to help provide the training, medications and treatment needed for those with eye diseases and to provide disability rehabilitation and education for all. They sponsor Camp Leo, a summer camp for Blind Children, the Storm Eye Institute, and a program that takes the Blind Fishing.

The mission of the Lions Club is to empower volunteers, and partners to improve health and well-being, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian services and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage peace and international understanding.
