Walterboro Lions Hold March Meeting

The Walterboro Lions Club held its monthly meeting at Dukes Bar B Que on Wednesday, March 11th, at 1. Bob Pence, Lions Club President opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by prayer.

Dr. Jesssica Lairson, the Coordinator of Exceptional Learning for the Colleton County School District spoke to the group about Sports Inclusion and the upcoming Special Olympics and Unified Sports event coming to the Colleton County High School Track and Band Field on April 3rd, from 9am until 1pm. The games have 169 registered participants. This will be the first games in Colleton County since before the pandemic. The group donated $100 dollars to the event.

Lions club members also continued their eye screenings at local schools and heard a recap on the recent Pancake Supper Fundraiser, The Lions Club sells brooms to support their community efforts, both household and warehouse brooms are available for sale at Hiotts Pharmacy.

The Club is also looking to increase their membership.

The Lions Clubs Internationally are a world leader in the effort to prevent avoidable blindness, they are working with local partners to help provide the training, medications and treatment needed for those with eye diseases and to provide disability rehabilitation and education for all. They sponsor Camp Leo, a summer camp for Blind Children, the Storm Eye Institute, and a program that takes the Blind Fishing.

The mission of the Lions Club is to empower volunteers, and partners to improve health and well-being, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian services and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage peace and international understanding.
