The Walterboro Lions Club held its monthly meeting at Dukes Bar B Que on Wednesday, January 14th at 1:00 PM. Bob Pence, Lions Club President, opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by prayer.
Dr. Krista Massey from the Colleton County Chamber of Commerce was the guest speaker for this month. Dr. Massey updated the group on the chamber and some of the events they have hosted, including Coffee with Collogues, Business after Hours, and the State of Colleton. She also spoke about the upcoming 21 and Over Shotgun Golf Tournament on March 21st. The Chamber currently has 175 members.
Lions club members also discussed the eye screenings in the community. They held two screening, one at In-His-Name which screened 27 people and referred 8 for further examinations. The second screening took place at Libertas Academy, 171 students were tested with 22 being referred for additional testing. The Lions Club sells brooms to support their community efforts, both household and warehouse brooms are available for sale at Hiotts Pharmacy.
The Lion’s will host is Annual Pancake Supper on February 26th . The event will be held at Forest Hills Elementary School with tickets available from Local Lions Members.
The Club is also looking to increase their membership.
The Lions Clubs Internationally are a world leader in the effort to prevent avoidable blindness, they are working with local partners to help provide the training, medications and treatment needed for those with eye diseases and to provide disability rehabilitation and education for all. They sponsor Camp Leo, a summer camp for Blind Children, the Storm Eye Institute, and a program that takes the Blind Fishing.
The mission of the Lions Club is to empower volunteers, and partners to improve health and well-being, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian services and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage peace and international understanding.
