The Walterboro Lions Club held its monthly meeting at Dukes Bar B Que on Wednesday, April 8th, at 1:00 PM. Bob Pence, Lions Club President opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by prayer.
Ray Colson gave an update on the group’s activities over the past year, including the Pancake Supper, eye screenings in the schools, referrals for glasses, and numerous donations to local civic organizations.
The Lions presented and passed the list for next year’s officers, and they will be announced next month.
The scholarship committee is currently going over applications to choose this year’s recipients.
The Club is aways looking to increase their membership. The group also fund projects with their brooms sales. Brooms are available at Hiott’s Pharmacy.
The Lions Clubs Internationally are a world leader in the effort to prevent avoidable blindness, they are working with local partners to help provide the training, medications and treatment needed for those with eye diseases and to provide disability rehabilitation and education for all. They sponsor Camp Leo, a summer camp for Blind Children, the Storm Eye Institute, and a program that takes the Blind Fishing.
The mission of the Lions Club is to empower volunteers, and partners to improve health and well-being, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian services and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage peace and international understanding.
