Walterboro City Council Swearing-In Ceremony and January Meeting

The City of Walterboro held its official Swearing‑In Ceremony on Tuesday, January 6 in front of City Hall, marking the start of a new term of municipal leadership. Circuit Court Judge Bobby Bonds administered the oaths of office for Mayor James Broderick and Councilmembers Carl Brown, Jimmy Syfrett, and Spencer Witkin.

Following the ceremony, City Council held its regular meeting. Under Old Business, City Council gave second and final reading of an ordinance to amend the FY 2025-2026 General Fund budget to add one (1) additional police patrol position. An ordinance to amend the zoning map to change the zoning classification of a parcel of land on Carter Street from single-family residential (SFR) to neighborhood commercial district (NCD) was also passed.

Under New Business, City Council elected Paul Siegel as Mayor Pro Tem. Mayor Broderick appointed Jimmy Syfrett to the Walterboro-Colleton County Airport Commission, Ladson Fishburne to the Keep Walterboro Beautiful Board, and Spencer Witkin to the Lowcountry Council of Governments Board of Directors.

Also under New Business, City Council approved the naming of the park located at 419 Hampton Street to “Bill Young Park.”
