VFW Post 12102 holds Annual Day of Service

Posted

Colleton County Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 12102 held their annual Day of Service. This year a food drive was held on 9 May at the Walterboro IGA. Past Post Commander, Bill Proctor, chaired the event and made the arrangements with IGA.

The Comrades set up their canopy and started collecting. Through the generosity of the patrons of the Walterboro IGA, the Post was able to collect over 1140 pounds of non-perishable food items and $660 in cash donations. This was enough food to fill a pickup bed to overflow.

The food was taken to the Bethel United Methodist Food Pantry on Monday, 11 May by Commander Clint Ferrel, Quartermaster David Lies, Comrade Charles Armentrout and Auxiliary President Beate Lies along with Auxiliary member Christy Ferrell.

The cash donations, were donated to the Maple Cane Baptist Church Mobile Meals program. Commander Clint Ferrell delivered the check on Saturday, 9 May. The program also received some fresh potatoes and onions.

The Comrades of Post 12102 would like to take this opportunity to thank the management and staff of Walterboro IGA and their customers who made the food drive such a big success. Your generosity allowed us to exceed our previous food drive by about 150 pounds of food and $200 in cash donations.
