April 24th and 25th we had the Rice Festival, one of the best yet. In addition to the marvelous crowds, there were so many activities for the people to enjoy. At the Civitan Hut, where you could buy perlo rice straight out of the “WORLD’S LARGEST POT OF RICE,” we had a great festival, and we owe a debt of gratitude to the help that we had from the incredible group of young people called “Rice Planters.” This year’s Rice Planters included Addy Busch, Heidi Bishop, Tylor Riesner, Ann Howell, Cooper White, Graycen Bryan, Owen Broach, Betts White, Kinslee Benton, Cotton Polly, and Matthew Smith. In addition to the Rice Planters, we had two other young ladies that were instrumental to the success that we had, and they were Jade Fralix and Addie Polk.
On a personal note, a lady came to purchase some rice. She was excited to share some news with us. Her son had just been awarded an Academic Scholarship, given by the Civitans, to attend USC Salkehatchie. This was the reason that 18 Civitans worked many hours to have a great Rice Festival in order to give back to our community.
Thank you Walterboro and Colleton County and especially the Rice Festival Committee for your support.
