The Word of God, part 2

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness

2 Timothy 3: 16

What separates the Bible from other ancient literature? What makes the Bible distinct from other sacred writings devoted to other religions? The answer is in this text. The Scriptures are “God-breathed” or inspired. Paul is saying that the words of Scripture are much more than the words of man. Scripture is the words of God to us.

Peter testified that “… prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:21). God selected willing men and the Holy Spirit superintended their thoughts and writings, producing the infallible, inerrant, inspired Word of God.

Jesus said, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished” (Matthew 5: 17-18). Jesus was teaching that the Scriptures are without error, down to the specific words the writers chose to write.

God has written His Word to you. Will you read it and believe it? I want to encourage you to make the effort to read some of the Bible as often as you can. Our area has some wonderful churches and pastors who would love to teach the Bible to you and your family. Would you go to church? Make the effort and make God a priority in your life.
