The True Meaning of Thanksgiving

Posted

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever” (Psalm 107:1, NIV). “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18, NKJV). Thanksgiving is more than a holiday; it’s a holy day. It is not just about turkey, dressing, and sweet potato pie (though praise God for those blessings too!). Thanksgiving is a lifestyle, an attitude of the heart that sees God’s hand in everything, even in the smallest details of life. When we pause to give thanks, we shift our focus from what’s missing to what’s miraculous! Praise the Lord …

Let us take a look at the word THANKSGIVING, and see what it really means for the believer:

T – Trust. Trust that God is working all things together for your good, even when you can’t see how. (Romans 8:28)

H – Hope. Hope in His promises because He never fails and never forgets.

A – Abundance. Recognize that you serve a God of more than enough, not scarcity, but overflow.

N – New Mercies. Every morning you wake up, His mercy clock resets, fresh and brand new. (Lamentations 3:22–23)

K – Kindness. Show it, sow it, and share it. Thanksgiving is not complete until it overflows in kindness toward others.

S – Surrender. Let go of your worries and let God handle them. True gratitude rests in surrender.

G – Grace. Remember that every blessing is unearned favor. You didn’t earn it; you received it!

I – Inspiration. Let your gratitude inspire others to see God’s goodness through your life.

V – Victory. Give thanks even in trials because the believer’s story always ends in triumph through Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:57)

I – Increase. Gratitude invites increase; the more you thank Him, the more He entrusts to you.

N – Name. Always give Glory to the name above every name — JESUS!

G – Giving. Thanksgiving ends where it begins, with giving. We give thanks, we give love, and we give of ourselves.

Therefore, in this season, do not just count your blessings; live your thanksgiving. Every sunrise is another chance to say, “Lord, I thank You!” Think on this thought during this season and always: When you turn your Thanksgiving into “Thanks-living,” your heart becomes the table where gratitude and grace meet every single day. Always abound in the faith, and never leave home without Him!
