The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:14
John describes Jesus as the Word, because Jesus is the expression of the Trinity to the world. Jesus expresses humility, compassion, and mercy to a world that is hostile against God.
In Jesus’ humility, He became flesh or human. The Son of God who is equal with God the Father and God the Spirit, left the wonder, majesty, and opulence of heaven to be human with us. Jesus was revealed as Emmanuel or “God with us.”
Because God cares about sinners, Jesus compassionately took on an earthly body or flesh. This means that Jesus subjected Himself to pain, misery, physical limitations, heartache, betrayal, grief, suffering, mockery, and even death. Jesus had to become flesh and blood because He would offer that flesh and blood as an offering to God that would provide a way for sinners to be saved. Jesus’ offering gives us the opportunity to be forgiven and have fellowship with the living God.
Jesus mercifully showed the world who God is by becoming the Lamb slain for our sins. Jesus showed us God’s glory by living a sinless, righteous, God-pleasing life. In that perfect life, Jesus demonstrated servanthood and compassion without compromise. Jesus displayed grace by doing for us what we cannot do for ourselves. We can be born again because Jesus died for us.
In a confused world, Jesus is the truth. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Would you turn your heart and life toward Jesus and the Word of God? If you feel lost, empty, or needing a new start, Jesus is exactly who you are looking for.
