In a world where we’ve grown accustomed to placing our highest trust in ourselves, we often find ourselves anxious because we have no real security. In our quest for self-sufficiency, we’ve traded our hope in God for hope in ourselves. We saw an explosion of anxiety and related disorders in my generation, but the latest generations are experiencing anxiety issues we never dreamed of. This is what happens when you have lost the discipline and practice of trusting the Lord.
The Apostle Paul instructs believers to address anxiety by taking our concerns to God in prayer. Prayer is an act of submission and trust. How long should a believer engage in prayer? Until the believer is assured that God now carries the believer’s burden. We should pray until the believer is convinced of God’s ability to handle the issue. We should pray until we completely trust God to answer our request as he sees fit. In prayer, the believer releases the issue into God’s able hands.
To the degree that the believer trusts God with their issues, they will have peace. Weak trust will result in weak peace, but a robust trust will produce a strong trust that will not be moved. This strong trust “will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Friend, where have you placed your trust and confidence? What do you hope in? May I invite you to put your trust and hope in the Son of God, who came to earth as our Savior, Jesus Christ? He will give you peace.
