A fast-moving woods fire destroyed approximately 10 acres of young pine trees at the corner of Sunrise Road and Bent Gate Lane Sunday afternoon, March 29th. Colleton County Fire-Rescue arrived to find the large woods fire and requested additional stations and South Carolina Forestry Commission for assistance. Firefighters protected structures in the area, while the Forestry Tractor cut fire lines around the fire. Dry conditions, low humidity and high winds spread the flames. Crews made efforts to prevent the fire from jumping Sunrise Road. Fire-Rescue Units were on the scene for three hours and were able to contain the fire.
