Sisters in Action Delivers Gratitude Boxes to Veterans at the Veterans Victory House

Posted

On Thursday, November 14, the young leaders of Sisters in Action visited the Veterans Victory House to deliver specially prepared Gratitude Boxes in celebration of Veterans Day and the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

The community-based girls’ leadership and empowerment program, comprising middle school students in grades 6-8 from Colleton County, spent the past several weeks collecting items and assembling boxes to express their appreciation for the service and sacrifices of local veterans. Each Gratitude Box included snacks and a postcard with a picture of the girls with some heartfelt words expressing their appreciation.

During their visit, the Sisters in Action participants personally handed out the boxes, offering smiles, conversations, and warm holiday wishes to the residents. Many of the veterans shared their appreciation to the girls for their hard work, creating meaningful moments of connection across generations.

Program organizers say the visit reflects the group’s mission to build strong, compassionate leaders who serve their community with empathy and purpose.

“We want our girls to understand the importance of giving back and honoring those who served our country,” said Jocelyn McNeil, Shiffon Robinson, Gloria Brown and Mellany Rainford, advisors for Sisters in Action. “This experience teaches them gratitude, respect, and the power of kindness.”

For the girls, the visit was both inspiring and eye-opening.

The Veterans Victory House staff expressed appreciation for the visit, noting how much the residents enjoy connecting with young people in the community, especially during the holiday season.

Sisters in Action plans to continue its tradition of service with more community outreach projects throughout the school year.
