Upon taking office, what steps would you take to restore credibility to the Clerk of Court’s office?

Upon taking office, I would initiate training programs to ensure all staff are well informed and understand the ethical standards and protocols of the Clerk’s office.

•What is your understanding of the job of Clerk of Court for Colleton County?

The job of the Clerk of Court is to manage the day to day activities of the courthouse while upholding the law, maintain the court calendar, and understand the importance of facilitating public access within the courthouse.

•Clerk of Court requires effective management and utilization of resources, Can you provide an example of how you have demonstrated fiscal responsibility and efficiency in a previous role and how would you apply these principles in the role of Clerk of Court?

I’ve handled bookkeeping for my church. It has given me a good understanding of managing finances and the importance of accurate record-keeping. In positions I’ve held in the Clerk’s office over the last 13 years, I have dealt with financial transactions on a regular basis.

•Confidentiality and data security are paramount in handling court records, How do you propose maintaining the integrity of sensitive information while also promoting transparency and accountability in the management of court records?

Maintaining confidentiality and data security in court records is non-negotiable. I propose implementing strict access controls and regular audits to safeguard sensitive information. I would also promote transparency by making non-confidential records easily accessible to the public while upholding legal restrictions on confidential information.
