A severe weather event dropped heavy rain and high winds on the south end of the county Saturday evening June 13th. There were multiple reports of trees down, blocked roads and downed power lines south of Walterboro to Green Pond. The area received a good bit of rain which caused slight flooding in some areas. Fire-Rescue units, Coastal Electric and Dominion Energy crews responded to many downed electrical lines and a large tree in the 500 block of Bowman Lane fell on a house. Initial reports indicated the occupants were trapped inside the residence, however when Firefighters reached the home, the occupants had escaped unharmed. Two vehicles at the scene also received damage from the fallen tree. Crews were tied up with the incidents for over three hours, and many homes were without power during that time. SCDOT crews cleared trees from several roads to reopen the travel lanes in the Ritter and Green Pond Communities.
