The 36th Annual Colleton Baptist Association Christmas Project, which was started by its founder, Roland Marchant, has assisted thousands of families and children at Christmas time. This year was no different. About 32 churches joined forces with Ace Basin Abate and longtime local businesses to donate toys and food to Colleton kids and families. “We adopted kids from Mrs. Cindy Riley with First Steps of Colleton County and from our local churches of those in need.” Volunteers from CBA Men’s Ministry, CBA Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), churches & youth groups, and community individuals on Thursday, December 11th at Nova Church to pack food boxes with food purchased by the CBA. On Saturday, December 15th, Jennifer S Crosby, 17 year coordinator for the project’s operation, extensively prepared for the volunteers who arrived on the day of the project at Nova Church and then to shop at Walmart where a line was designated for the project and the toys and clothes were paid for with funds from donations and to help distribute toys and food boxes to families and our precious seniors. In all, about 187 children received toys and 101 families received food boxes.
During the year, the CBA Men’s Ministry, headed by Pat Catterton, coordinates Prayer Breakfast and Meetings where they collect donations for our Christmas Project. On Dec. 6th, the Ace Basin Abate celebrating their 25th year, has adopted the CBA’s Christmas Project as its charity, hosting 2 motorcycle toy rides one in July and one in December throughout the county to conclude at Barrel House Grill, who has partnered with them to provide a venue for them to do such amazing be able to provide such a wonderful community project, and where they presented money and a trailer full of toys to Crosby and Catterton. Rev. Ken McCaskell DOM of the Colleton Baptist Association assist in overseeing the grocery purchases and assist with our partnership with Walmart and our volunteer shoppers.
