Salk Nursing Program Manager Speaks at Rotary

The Walterboro Rotary Club held its January 21th meeting at the Colleton Commercial Kitchen. The meeting was called to order by Rotary President, David Smalls. After recitation of the four principals of Rotary, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the Invocation. Smalls had Rotary Member, Scott Lockwood, update the club on the news of the day including Local News, the release of the3 Mohamid Ali Stamp, a today in history with the first publication of the Popeye Comic Strip in 1929.

The guest speaker for this week’s meeting was USC Salkehatchie Nursing Program Manager, Anna Carol Ptacin, MSN, RN. Professor Ptacin spoke about the nursing program that is partnership between USC-Beaufort and USC-Salkehatchie. The program at Salk allows the students to take classes, Clinical, and practical work here in Colleton County and attain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The BSN program is approved by the South Carolina Board of Nursing and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Upon successful completion of the BSN program, graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses. Ptacin brought a past graduate, Jilaysha Brown to speak about her experience with the nursing program.

Members meet regularly, network, and organize projects, from local initiatives like providing shoes to children to global efforts to eradicate polio, fostering leadership, integrity, and goodwill.
