Early Saturday morning June 3, Colleton County Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a structure fire on Ruffin Road. Responders arrived on scene to find a two-story wood frame structure well involved with flames that were consuming the roof. It was verified there were no occupants in the building, and a deck gun was used to knock down the flames. Multiple handlines were then utilized to extinguish the blaze. Crews managed to stop the spread of the fire, however the second story collapsed into the first story which caused heavy damage to the building. Some personal items were saved, but the home suffered considerable damage. The cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature. The Red Cross is currently assisting the family.
